We’ve created a versatile, neutral lard made from our Pasture Raised, Heritage Pigs. Using the leaf lard (internal fat) of the animal, we’ve created a product that can be applied in a range of baked goods such as pies, pastries and sausage rolls.
Here at Hillside Food Forest, we truly believe in and strive to use the whole animal. With each animal using the nose-to-tail is an important practice we employ with all our animals.
Each glass jar contains 370ml of bakers lard.
What is Leaf Lard?
Leaf lard is the fat of a pig that surrounds the kidneys. This fat is the most neutral of all pork fats and the rendered lard made from this is prized by bakers for the properties that make lard great to bake with (flakiness, leavening, staling) without imparting porky flavour.

"Incredible. Hands down the best pork I've ever eaten. Not usually a fan of the smell when pork is cooking, but this meat is just different, I couldn't stay away from the kitchen! Deliciousness aside, the regenerative farming aspect is such a draw card for me. I'll be ordering regularly. Well done Hillside Food Forest"

"The chicken is so juicy, tender and flavoursome. Superior to anything else, highly recommended. The owners are also salt of the earth people who deserve every success that comes their way"

WE WANT TO PRODUCE THE BEST FOOD NATURALLY POSSIBLE
In 2020, we hatched a plan to get out of our office based careers and became farmers 👩🌾👨🌾 - with no experience, no contacts and generally no idea; We started our regenerative, chemical free, farm
We simply wanted to produce the best food possible, without chemicals, and do it while having a positive impact on our environment - our regenerative vision. We believe ethical, chemical free farming should be the norm.
