Pasture Raised Pork Baker's Lard
We’ve created a versatile, neutral lard made from our Pasture Raised, Heritage Pigs. Using the leaf lard (internal fat) of the animal, we’ve created a product that can be applied in a range of baked goods such as pies, pastries and sausage rolls.
Here at Hillside Food Forest, we truly believe in and strive to use the whole animal. With each animal using the nose-to-tail is an important practice we employ with all our animals.
Each glass jar contains 370ml of bakers lard.
What is Leaf Lard?
Leaf lard is the fat of a pig that surrounds the kidneys. This fat is the most neutral of all pork fats and the rendered lard made from this is prized by bakers for the properties that make lard great to bake with (flakiness, leavening, staling) without imparting porky flavour.
